Read the following lines and answer the question that are given:
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime
i) What do the lives of great men remind us?
ii) What is the significance of the word 'sublime'?
Answer :
i) The lives of great men remind us that no matter how many times we fail or how many hardships we have to face, we can keep trying and working hard towards achieving our goals. Only the ones who do it with conviction are able to make their lives sublime and complete, and such men are revered even after their bodies have departed due to death. They are called great men, and they have left behind great legacies. Their lives, thus, remind us of the simple fact – hard work and conviction can work wonders, no matter how many times you fail.
ii) The word ‘sublime’ refers to something very beautiful or excellent. The word, used in the context, is of special significance, because it is used in a superlative sense, where the poet has tried to picture the life of a great person – one who has put in tremendous hard work and effort in achieving some goal, and is revered to his day. Hence, the poet has tried using the word to show ‘life’ in a different light. In spite of hardships and life of strife, it can be changed into a sublime one, only if one keeps trying.
