Distance between the Sun and the Earth = 1.496×1011 m

Distance between the Moon and the Earth = 3.84×108 m

Diameter of the Sun = 1.39×109 m

From the above figure,

Δ PQT and Δ RST are similar. Thus,



PQ = Diameter of the Sun

RS = Diameter of the Moon

VT = Distance between the Sun and the Earth

UT = Distance between the Moon and the Earth


RS = ×106 m = 3.57×106 m

Hence, The diameter of the Moon = RS = 3.57×103 km.
