Answer :

A political party is a group of individuals who come together and organise themselves to contest elections, hold power and form the government. They agree on some policies and programmes for the society with a view to promoting the collective good. Political parties are crucial for the working of democracy. The presence of different political parties ensures the efficient functioning of the democratic system.

There are many major challenges that are faced by the political parties while working within the democratic framework. One of the major challenge faced by the parties is the lack of internal democracy and discipline within the party. Most of the parties today follow a hierarchal system in which there is always a tendency in all the political parties to concentrate all the powers of the party in one or few leaders at the top. This can be seen in all the counties. Thus, the leaders are not aware of any details of the decisions made by the superiors. This can cause unrest and conflicts within the party.

Generally, political parties do not keep membership registers, organise general body meetings or conduct internal elections regularly. Thus, the ordinary members in the grass root level do not have the networks or the connections to influence the decisions of the top leaders. Thus, the leaders assume greater power in decision making and those who disagree with the leaders find it difficult to continue in the party.

The unilateral decisions of the topmost officials in the party can result in a hereditary succession in which the well-wishers of the people who currently enjoy power become the next leaders. Thus it would be very difficult for an ordinary worker be an important leader or show their potential. The lack of the proper conduct of democratic elections and other discussions will not give the other members an equal opportunity to rise up to their potential.

Thus the lack of democracy within any political party can be evident through the following instances. It is highly important for all the political parties to maintain a democratic system and nature in their workings to ensure better functioning of the democratic system.

There are many major challenges that are faced by the political parties while working within the democratic framework. One of the major challenge faced by the parties is the use of money and muscle power by the political parties especially during the time of elections. In today’s scenario, parties are majorly focussed on winning elections, forming the government and holding power. Thus, they tend to use short-cuts and other malpractices to win elections. A major element that they choose while contesting elections is the use of money power, muscle power and other influences. This is common in any democratic country of the world.

Mostly, all the parties tend to nominate those candidates who have the sources to raise money. Such candidates are largely nominated and their decisions are mostly considered because of the funding that they receive from them. These are the major sources of funding for political parties. The parties borrow huge amounts of money from them, especially at the time of elections.

Since the rich people and companies are the major funding houses of political parties, the parties would be bound to follow the instructions given by them. They may be forced to take illegal decisions under the influence of their sponsors on the policies, strategies and decisions of the party. In some cases, parties might be forced to support criminals who can win elections through their monetary and other influences.

The most important challenge that all the parties face is the use of money and muscle power. This also hinders the decision-making capacity of the common public. Thus, such funding and influences must be curtailed for the efficient functioning of political parties.
