How is a democrac
Democracy is the form of government that is for the people, of the people and by the people. Democracy is a much superior form of government compared to any other form of government in the world. It is instrumental in promoting the dignity and freedom of its citizens. Conflicts often arise among individuals and in a system because some feel that they are not being treated equally with due respect. The ideology of respect and freedom are the basis of democracy. This shows a transition from societies which have been the centre of subordination and domination to a democratic one recognising and respecting every individual equally.
Most societies across the world were historically patriarchal and male-dominated that considered the female as subordinate citizens. Long struggles by women have created an environment for the respect and equal treatment of women. Even though women are not actually always treated equally with respect in all the instances, it becomes easier for women to wage a struggle against their situation and for equality of opportunities and dignity under a democratic structure. In non-democratic governance, this struggle would not have a legal basis.
Democracy in India has reinforced the privileges and rights of the disadvantaged and discriminated castes for equal status and equal opportunity and has led to their empowerment. There are still many occurrences of caste-based inequalities, atrocities and caste-based killings. But it can be regulated and controlled through the institutional and legal foundations of the democratic system. Since democracy is from within the strengths of the citizens, they have the authority to question, analyse and criticise the government. They have the freedom to express their opinions about society or about the government without any fear of subjugation.
Thus democracy always leads to the promotion of freedom and dignity of its citizens. This is the better form of governance in comparison to autocracy or dictatorship.
