The author Robert Lynd justifies his statement that the bee is ‘morally higher in the scale than the mosquito’ by comparing their actions, pros and cons. While the mosquito bites cold-bloodedly like a murdered, for the sole motive of preying and sucking blood, the bee stings only when it is annoyed. Otherwise, it is a seemingly quiet and unoffensive, and is usually at peace with other creatures.
Besides, the bee is a really useful insect, in that it supplies humans and some animals with honey and wax, and also helps in the multiplication of apples, strawberries and other fruits by assisting in the process of pollination. On the other hand, a mosquito does nothing but spread deadly diseases like malaria, and is a much unwanted personality in any dwelling.
