Igneous rocks are one of the three types of rocks, others being sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, which are formed during a volcanic eruption. These rocks are formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava which comes out when a volcano erupts. Solidification into rocks occurs either below the surface which is known as intrusive rocks or on the surface which is known as extrusive rocks.
