Non-disjunction of autosomes is the condition, where the sister chromatids or homologous chromosomes fail to separate during cell division.
Failure of these chromosomes to separate leads to abnormal number of chromosomes within the daughter cells.
Disorder caused by non-disjunction of autosomes:
1. Down’s Syndrome: This condition is also known as trisomy 21. In this condition due to non-disjunction of sister chromatids an extra copy of chromosome 21 is made. These changes result in developmental and physical abnormalities in the chid.
Symptoms:
1. Flattened facial profile.
2. Short stature.
3. Learning disability.
4. Epilepsy
