Tantia Tope was one of the most important Indian freedom fighters of the Revolt of 1857. His original name was Ramchandra Panduranga. He was born in 1813 in June. Tantia Tope was in the service of Peshwas of the Maratha ruler Baji Rao, and his son Nana Sahib. He had not taken any formal military training. He co-operated with Nana Sahib in organizing an anti-British group. He was a master in guerrillas tactics and had a great organizing skill. He also joined hands with Rani LaxmiBai.He was defeated by General Rose in a memorable battle in which Rani Laxmi Bai was martyrdom. Tantia Tope escaped to the jungle where he fought many guerrilla wars with the support of many tribals but he was betrayed by his trusted friend Man Singh. He was captured by Britishers on 7th April 1859 and hanged him on 18th April 1859.
