Ganga-Brahmaputra

Answer :

Sunderbans Delta or Bengal Delta is the world’s largest delta. It is also known as Ganga-Brahmaputra delta as it is formed by these two major rivers of India. It is formed in the region of Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. The Delta stretches from the Hooghly River on the west to the Meghna River on the east.

River deltas are agricultural production centres as Ganga and Brahmaputra make floodplains and deposit very fertile alluvial soil. A large number of productions of food grains like rice, wheat, maize, pulses etc. comes from this region. Other reasons which help in high yield production are the water and soil of delta is rich in minerals and nutrients, high rainfall during monsoon, favourable weather conditions for crops etc. This high yield of production serves food grains to a major part of India, therefore it is called “Food bowl of India”.
