# Find the capacitance of the combination shown in figure between A and B.

Answer :

The question figure is a simple arrangement of parallel andseries configurations.

Let us number each capacitor as C_{1}, C_{2},… and C_{8} for simplification.

In the figure 5^{th} and 1^{st} capacitors are in series, hence the effective capacitance, C_{51} is

Now, C_{51} and C_{6} are in parallel,

Hence the effective capacitance, C_{61} is,

On substituting,

Now, C_{61} and C_{2} are in series, hence the effective capacitance, C_{62} is,

Or,

This above pattern repeats for 2 more times. Hence at the end, the effective capacitance, C_{eff} will be 1μF,

So,

The capacitance of the combination is hence 1μF.
