Write brief answers.
Explain with the help of formulae the expansion coefficients of liquid and gas.
Expansion coefficient of a liquid or a gas is a parameter which denotes its ability to expand with an increase in temperature.
Higher the value of expansion coefficient, more easily can a liquid or gas can expand.
The formula to find the coefficient of expansion of liquid or gas is given below.
● = volumetric coefficient of expansion
● = The final volume of liquid or gas
● = The initial volume of gas or liquid
● = change in temperature
From the above formulae, can be defined as the fractional change in volume of liquid or gas with unit degree rise in temperature (in Celsius or Kelvin scale).
Gases have no fixed volume and its volume change is measured at constant pressure. So in the case of gases, is also called as constant pressure expansion coefficient.
