Explain why we cannot make pots, toys, and statues with sand and can make these with clay.
We cannot make pots, toys, and statues with sand, but can do the same with clay. This is because of the difference in size of the particles.
Sand is made up of large particles and has high porosity. Water drains quickly through sand due to large air spaces. It has poor water retention. These particles do not stick with each other. Sand tends to be dry and light.
On the other hand, clay contains very fine particles which easily stick to each other. It has small air spaces and good water holding capacity. It remains wet and sticky due to tightly packed particles. So it is possible to make toys and pots with clay.
