When Silver nitrate solution(AgNO3) is added to potassium iodide solution (KI)

then negative charged colloidal sol is formed due to adsorption of iodide ions by silver iodide which is precipitated from the dispersion medium (KI soln.).


The size of the finest gold sol particles increases in the gold sol because when dissolution occurs , a large number of gold atoms agitate.

a huge number of atoms (or smaller particles) of a substance combined together to form the species having size in the colloidal range (1–1000 nm) which results them in forming multimolecular colloids , that is why the size of the finest gold sol particles increases in the gold.


When two oppositely charged sols are mixed in almost equal proportions their opposite charges get neutralised and they get partially or sometimes completely precipitated it is called coagulation of precipitation of the sol.

Eg- when hydrated ferric oxide (which is positive sol) and arsenious sulphide (negative sol) are mixed it brings them in their corresponding precipitated forms which results in mutual coagulation.
