Distribution of population refers to the way in which humans are spread over the earth’s surface. Different geographic, economic and social factors influence population distribution on earth. Extreme geographical areas like high latitude areas, tropical deserts, high mountains and areas of equatorial forests witness lower levels of population. While regions with moderate geographical features like plains, favourable climate etc witness higher levels of population. Owing to these factors, 90% of the world’s population inhabit 10% of the earth’s land surface. Asia and Africa have two-thirds of the world’s population residing in them. 10 countries of the world including China and India have populations of more than 100 million people and amounts up to 60% of the world’s population.
