Explain any three measures taken by the British administration to repress the movement started against the ‘Rowlatt Act’. (CBSE 2013)
Answer :
Measures by British to repress Rowlatt satyagraha:
1. British decided to stop the nationalists. Local leaders of Amritsar were arrested.
2. Mahatma Gandhi was ordered not to enter Delhi.
3. Martial law was imposed after protests in Amritsar. On 13 April, the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre happened on the orders of General Dyer.
Explanation: British were afraid of the administration going out of hand so they repressed the movement brutally. After the Jallianwalla Bagh protests, they even humiliated Indians.
