# Dimensions of a painting are 60 cm × 38 cm. Find the area of the wooden frame of width 6 cm around the painting as shown in Fig.

Answer :

Length of outer rectangle = 60 + 6 + 6 = 72 cm

Breadth of outer rectangle = 38 + 6 + 6 = 50 cm

Area of wooden frame = Area of outer rectangle – area on inner rectangle

= 72 × 50 – 60 × 38

= 3,600 – 2,280 = 1,320 m^{2}
