Q. 75.0( 1 Vote )

# Factorize each of the following quadratic polynomials by using the method of completing;

Answer :

a^{2} + 2a – 3

Coefficient of a^{2} = 1

Therefore, we have

a^{2} + 2a – 3 = a^{2} + 2a + 1^{2} – 1^{2} – 3 (Adding and subtracting 1^{2})

= (a + 1)^{2} – 2^{2} (Completing the square)

= (a + 1 + 2) (a + 1 – 2)

= (a + 3) (a – 1)
