(a) Number of chessmen at beginning = 32


Number of squares occupied = 32


Number of unoccupied squares = 32


Area of unoccupied squares = 32 × 4


= 128 sq.cm


(b) Area occupied by chessmen = 32 × 4


= 128 sq.cm
