Points A and B are on the opposite edges of a pond as shown in Fig. 6.56. To find the distance between the two points, the surveyor makes a right-angled triangle as shown. Find the distance AB.


Answer :

In the given triangle


AC as distance of pound


AC2 = 302 + 402


AC2 = 900 + 1600


AC2 = 2500


AC = √2500


= 50m


AC = AB + BC


50m = AB + 12m


AB = 38m
