The 17th term of an AP exceeds its 10th term by 7. Find the common difference.
Answer :
To find: Common Difference, d
nth term of an AP is given by,
an = a + (n - 1) d
where,
a is the first term, n is the number of terms in an AP and d is the common difference
Tenth and seventeenth terms of this AP can be given as follows:
a10 = a + 9d
a17 = a + 16d
It is give that 17th term is 7 more than the tenth term, So
Subtracting 10th term from 17th term, we get;
a + 16d – a – 9d = 7
7d = 7
d = 1
Hence common difference of the A.P is 1
