In the given figure ABC is right angled at B and BD is perpendicular to AC. Find (i) cos θ, (ii) cot α.


Answer :

Firstly, we find the value of AC

In right angled ∆ABC


(AB)2 + (BC)2 = (AC)2


(12)2 + (5)2 = (AC)2


144+25 =(AC)2


(AC)2 =169


AC =√169


AC =±13


AC =13 [taking positive square root since, side cannot be negative]
