# Two numbers are in the ratio of 3 : 5. If 5 is subtracted from each of the number they become in the ratio of 1 : 2. Find the numbers.

Answer :

Let the two numbers be x and y.

According to the question,

…(i)

Also,

⇒ 2(x – 5) = (y – 5)

⇒ 2x – 10 = y – 5

⇒ 2x – y = 5 …(ii)

On putting the value of in Eq. (ii), we get

⇒ x = 15

On putting the value of x = 15 in Eq. (i), we get

Hence, the two numbers are 15 and 25.
