Q. 1 I

# Solve the following quadratic equations by factorization method.

2(x + 1)^{2} –5 (x + 1) =12

Answer :

2(x + 1)^{2} – 5(x + 1) = 12

= 2(x^{2} + 2x + 1) – 5x – 5 = 12

= 2x^{2} + 4x + 2 – 5x – 5 –12 = 0

= 2x^{2} – x – 15 = 0

= 2x^{2} – 6x + 5x – 15 = 0

= 2x (x – 3) + 5(x –3) = 0

= (2x + 5) (x – 3) = 0

2x + 5 = 0 or x – 3 =0

2x = –5 or x = 3

x = or x = 3
