Answer :

Given: x — 3y = 1…(i)

3x + y = 3 …(ii)

Multiply (i) by 3,

3x – 9y = 3 ..(iii)

3x + y = 3…(ii)

Subtract (ii) from (iii),

3x – 9y – 3x – y = 3 – 3

⇒ – 10y = 0

⇒ y = 0

Putting this in (i),

x – 0 = 1

⇒ x = 1

So, the solution set will be {1, 0}.
