Q. 584.8( 6 Votes )
Find the median of the given data if the mean is 4.5.
5, 7, 7, 8, x, 5, 4, 3, 1, 2
Answer :
Mean =
Sum of terms = 5 + 7 + 7 + 8 + x + 5 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 2
= 42 + x
Number of terms = 10
Mean = 4.5 =
42 + x = 4.5×10 = 45
x = 45 – 42 = 3
For median
Arrange terms in ascending order
1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 7, 7, 8
Median = mean of and
terms
Median = Mean of 5 and 6th term
Median = mean of 4 and 5
Median = = 4.5
