Write whether the following statements are True or False. Justify your answer

(i) A binomial can have at the most two terms

(ii) Every polynomial is a binomial

(iii) A binomial may have degree 3

(iv) Degree of zero polynomial is zero

(v) The degree of x2 + 2xy + y2 is 2

(vi) πr2 is monomial.

Answer :

(i) A polynomial with two terms is called a binomial.

The statement is true.

(ii) A polynomial can have more than two terms.

The statement is false.

(iii) A binomial should have two terms, the degree of those terms can be any integer.

The statement is true.

(iv) The constant polynomial whose coefficients are all equal to 0, is called a zero polynomial. Its degree can be any integer.

The statement is false.

(v) The highest power in x2 + 2xy + y2 is 2, therefore its degree is 2.

The statement is true.

(vi) A monomial is a polynomial which has only one term.

πr2 has only one term

The statement is true.
