9 + 16y2 = 9 + (7 + 3y)2


16y2 = 49 + 42y + 9y2


7y2 - 42y - 49 = 0


7(y2-6y-7) = 0


y2-7y + y-7 = 0


y(y-7) + 1(y-7) = 0


(y + 1)(y-7) = 0


y = 7 or y = -1


Thus, possible values of y are 7 or -1.
