If tangent is parallel to the line x + 3y = 4 then it’s slope is -1/3.





x = 1 and -1


At x = 1, y = 2 and y = -2 (not possible)

y – b = m(x – a)


At (1, 2)



3y + x = 7


At (-1, -2)



3y + x = -7
