Answer :
Let the initial length of side be x
So, the area of a square = a2 = x2 m2
New length = 3 + x
New width = 1 + x
Now it is a rectangle
Area of rectangle = l × b = (3 + x) × (1 + x)
So according to given conditions
19 + x2 = 3 + 4 x + x2
4 x = 16
x = 4m
Therefore, length of side is 4m.
