Find the discriminant of each of the following equations:

1 – x = 2x2

Answer :

Given: 1 – x = 2x2

2x2 + x – 1 = 0


Comparing with standard quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0


a = , b = 1, c = – 1


Discriminant D = b2 – 4ac


= (1)2 – 4.2. – 1


= 1 + 8 = 9
