Q. 574.2( 5 Votes )

Solve each of the following quadratic equations:

Answer :

taking LCM

8x2 + 8 = 17x2 - 34x cross multiplying

- 9x2 + 34x + 8 = 0

9x2 - 34x - 8 = 0

Using the splitting middle term - the middle term of the general equation is divided in two such values that:

Product = a.c

For the given equation a = 9 b = - 34 c = - 8

= 9. - 8 = - 72

And either of their sum or difference = b

= - 34

Thus the two terms are - 36 and 2

Difference = - 36 + 2 = - 34

Product = - 36.2 = - 72

9x2 - 34x - 8 = 0

9x2 - 36x + 2x - 8 = 0

9x(x - 4) + 2 (x - 4) = 0

(9x + 2)(x - 4) = 0

Hence the roots of equation are
