(i) Mirza Ghalib is a well-known poet in Persian and Urdu languages. He was born in Agra on December 27, 1797. He described that what where the people of natives were doing when British forces occupied the city in 1857 and moreover every road in the city from Kashmiri gate to Chandini Chowk was the battlefield.


(ii) British overran through all the directions. The main reasons behind the British attack in Delhi were:


• Rebels recognized the symbolic value of Delhi. This was against the British and they wanted to control over the rebels.


• To suppress the revolt that had been happened in 1857.


(iii) The battlefield was like a massacre, therefore, the rebels, fighters and people had escaped through the three gates the Ajmeri, the Turcoman and the Delhi. They needed the shelter for the sustenance. The shelter was at different places such as:


• The shelter was outside the city in little villages


• Another shelter was in shrines outside the villages
