Following changes takes place inside the matter during the change of states:
(1) Intermolecular space:
(i) Increases in case of, high temperature and low pressure as molecules move far apart as it gains kinetic energy from thermal energy and low pressure applied allows free movement of gas molecules, as a result space between particles increases.
(ii) Decreases in case of, low temperature and high pressure as molecules do not possess much kinetic energy and due to more pressure, no free movement takes place.
(2) Kinetic energy:
(i) Increases in case of, high temperature and low pressure and more the thermal energy more the kinetic energy. Due to low pressure more free movement of particles takes place.
(ii) Decreases in case of, low temperature and high pressure due to low thermal energy and less free movement of particles.
(3) Force of attraction:
(i) Increases on cooling due to low kinetic energy which brings particles close.
(ii) Decreases on heating as due to more kinetic energy and velocity molecules move away from each other.
