Draw a labelled diagram of the fractional distillation apparatus used for separating a mixture of alcohol and water.
Answer :
The boiling point of alcohol is 78°C and boiling point of water is 100°C therefore a mixture of alcohol and water can be separated by fractional distillation. The alcohol with boiling point 78°C will distil first and then water with boiling point 100°C will distil later. Fractional distillation separates the various liquids according to their boiling point, the more volatile liquid (having lower boiling point) distils first and the less volatile liquid (having higher boiling point) distils later.
