Q. 3
Do you think Panchayati Raj will strengthen the foundations of true democracy?
Answer :
Yes, Panchayati Raj is a great means to strengthen the foundations of our nation’s democracy. In the Panchayati Raj, the power lies with the people, for the representatives who are in charge of the administration of the region are elected by the people themselves. These elected representatives usually represent all age groups and all walks of life. There is even a minimum percentage of women representatives. This ensures that the problems of the masses are dealt with equitably, and the solutions embraced are in accordance with the law as well as morals.
Panchayati Raj is also the best way to reduce corruption and increase administrative efficiency. This is because it is the people themselves who participate actively in schemes for their own development, excluding any middlemen or outsiders. The true meaning of democracy – of the people, for the people and by the people – is reflected in the Panchayati Raj.
