Do liquids and gases also exert pressure? Does it depend upon on the area on which the force acts?

Answer :

Yes, liquids and gases also exert pressure.

Example:

If we fill a balloon with water or air, it will start bulging. This shows that water or air exerts pressure on the walls of the balloon.

Water or air pressure also depends on the area on which the force is applied.

A large balloon will have greater walls for the application of force on filling with water or air. And thus for a constant force, the pressure will be less in a large balloon compared to that in a small one.
