The construction of dams is associated with many problems.

(i) Social Problems – A large number of human settlements get drenched in the water of large reservoirs formed by the dam. This leaves people homeless thereby causing social problems.

(ii) Environmental Problems – Deforestation and loss of flora and fauna is a direct consequence of construction of dams on the rivers as a large variety of flora and fauna get drenched in the water. This causes disturbances in the ecological balance.

(iii) Economic Problems – Construction of dams requires massive expenditure. Despite spending huge amounts on their construction, the benefits reaped are not proportionate enough.
