India is located in South Asia in the Northern Hemisphere.
i. The longitudinal and latitudinal extent of India is 68°7' to 97°25' East and 8°4' to 37°6' North respectively.
ii. It is a peninsular country which means it is bounded by water bodies from three sides. In the east lies the Bay of Bengal, in the west, Arabian Sea and in the South, Indian Ocean.
iii. The Indian Ocean connects India with the Africa and Gulf countries which provide India oil.
iv. India’s location with the Indian Ocean and long coastline increase the importance of India in Asia.
