Answer :

British came to India with the intent of trading with it. But later due to administrative issues which hampered their trade, they went on to make India its colony. With their arrival, there were many changes which took the country on the path of modernisation. They can be summarized as below:

1. They introduced different revenue models for the land along with new systems of administration and laws.

2. English education was introduced.

3. Abolished the practice of Sati and supported widow remarriage.

4. Gave rise to colonial cities like Bombay, Calcutta and Madras which today are one of the most developed cities of the country.

5. Many cultural changes were observed in terms of the status of women in society, female infanticide, child marriage, etc.

Thus, we can say that though the British rule brought many hardships and poverty to the country, it can also be credited for bringing in modernisation.
