The industries are classified into five different types on the basis of the raw material used:
a. Agro-based industries: They process the raw material from the agricultural field into finished products which are to be consumed later in the market. The most popular agro-based industries are of food processing, sugar and fruit juices.
b. Chemical-based industries: These Industries use natural chemical minerals such as Petroleum And sulfur.
c. Forest-based industries: These Industries use the raw material from the forest such as timber for the furniture industry and bamboo for the paper industry.
d. Mineral-based industries: These Industries use raw material in the form of minerals such as iron and cement.
e. Animal-based industries: These Industries use the raw material that is obtained from animals fetch as wool for woolen textiles and Ivory from elephant tusks.
High Technology Industries or Hi-Tech industries intensive research and development efforts that lead to the manufacturing of products of an advanced scientific and Engineering character. They are usually concentrated and self-sustained in the peripheral areas of major metropolitan centers due to the following reasons:
a. The land in the peripheral areas of the cities is comparatively cheaper and is available in abundance. It makes it easier to build single-story buildings.
b. It is much easier to to get cheap and creative labour from the nearby areas.
c. It is also easy to have access to highly skilled professionals in the major Metropolitan cited.
d. The peripheral areas are well connected with Roadways and Railways to be used by the high tech industries.
e. The features of the Hi-Tech industrial are neatly spaced, low, modern, dispersed post office plant lab buildings for which the peripheral areas are most suited.
