a. Trade and economic standard developed along with urbanization.
b. The administrative machinery was reorganized during this period.
c. The basic unit of local administration was the village, sub-region and district.
d. Tax-free regions were granted to Brahmins called the brahmadeya. Marketing centres were called nagarams.
e. Every section had different responsibilities, such as maintenance and management of the water resources and land, local temples, resolving issues and conflicts and for collecting the taxes due to the government.
f. The Chola state did not interfere in the fundamental system of local administration but introduced innovations in the revenue Administration by creating new revenue divisions.
g. New taxes on agriculture and Commerce were introduced.
h. Many new temples were constructed and the existing temples became multifunctional social and economic institutions.
