# JEE Main Mathematics Chapter Wise Weightage

Know chapterwise weightage for JEE Mains Maths subject in detail here. JEE Mains Maths Syllabus is divided into four units.

By Mohit ChauhanUpdated : July 31, 2019 , 13:00 IST JEE Main Maths Chapter-wise Weightage: JEE Main Maths is considered to be one of the important aspects of the JEE Main exam. Maths plays a very important role, be it your 12th or any engineering entrance exam. To start the preparation of Maths for JEE Main Exam, go with the NCERT first and then move on to other books.

JEE Main Mathematics syllabus with weightage is a crucial tool which can be used to prepare smartly in order to score better. As we know, to increase your speed and accuracy for the exam it is important to create command over concepts. Students who are aware of the topics being asked regularly can focus accordingly. JEE Mains Maths Chapter-wise weightage is important in getting a clear idea about where to concentrate your efforts.

So here you can plan a smart strategy with the help of the chapter-wise weightage of Maths for JEE Main, broken down into sections for easy understanding.

## Unit-wise Weightage of JEE Main Mathematics

We have divided all the chapters of Maths into 4 Units for better understanding as given below:

1. Algebra
2. Coordinate Geometry
3. Trigonometry
4. Calculus

Let's check out the weightage of these units based on the analysis of JEE Main question papers of Previous 5 Years (2013 to 2017).

UNIT Weightage Algebra 35.00 Calculus 32.67 Coordinate Geometry 25.33 Trigonometry 7.00

One of the key features of the Maths paper is its consistency. The pattern, the type of questions and the weightage of topics have remained the same over these years. The 2 high weightage units are Algebra and Calculus. Not to mention the fact that at least 2 out of 30 questions are based on the concepts of more than 1 unit. Let's check the Chapter-wise weight in each of the units.

## JEE Main Maths Chapter-wise weightage in Algebra

Most of the chapters of class XI (and 1 chapter from 12th) make up this unit. The values given in the chart are the weightage of these mathematics chapters out of the entire syllabus for JEE Main.

Chapters Weight (out of 120 Marks) Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations 7.00 Permutations & Combinations 3.00 Progressions & Series and Binomial Theorem 9.67 Mathematical Reasoning and Induction 3.33 Statistics 3.33 Probability 3.33 Matrices & Determinants 6.67

The most important topics are:

• Algebra of Complex Numbers
• Modulus and Conjugate of Complex numbers and their properties
• Roots of Unity
• Quadratic equations and location of their Roots
• Matrices: Types and Operations
• Adjoint and Inverse of a Matrix
• Properties of Determinants
• Area of Triangles
• Permutations & Combinations
• Algebra of Events and Probability
• Conditional Probability
• Multiplication Theorem of Probability
• Bayes' Theorem
• AP, GP & their means
• Relationship between AM and GM
• Binomial Theorem: general and middle terms
• Calculation of Mean Deviation, variance & standard deviation
• The validity of a statement

## JEE Main Maths Chapter-wise weightage in Coordinate Geometry

Considering that we get the only formula based a fixed number of questions from this is perhaps the easiest. However, not to be taken lightly, a lot of practice is required to avoid silly or calculation mistakes in these questions and to improve your speed and comfort. Let's check the chapter-wise weight of this unit:

Chapter Weight (out of 120 Marks) Straight Lines 5.00 Circles 5.00 Conic Section 6.67 3D Geometry 6.67 Vectors 3.33

The most important topics in this unit are:

• Slope of Lines and Angles between them
• Distance of a Point From a Line and Distance between 2 parallel lines
• Centroid, Incentre, Orthocnetre and Circumcentre of a triangle
• Equations of Tangents, Normal and Chords of Circles
• Ellipse
• Parabola
• Hyperbola
• Direction cosines and Equation of Lines in Space
• Angle and distance between 2 lines
• Equation of Planes
• Angle between two planes
• Coplanarity of 2 lines
• Operations of vectors

## JEE Main Maths Chapter-wise Weightage in Trigonometry

This is the smallest unit and if we go by the weightage, it has the least. However, considering the fact that trigonometric ratios and concepts can be used in algebra (complex numbers & matrices) and in Calculus (as a function directly or as a method to simplify other functions for easier integration), this is a very important unit and needs to be completed first to have an easy way in other units. The chapter-wise weight of Trigonometry is given below:

Chapter Weight (out of 120 Marks) Trigonometric Identities 5.67 Solutions of Triangles & Heights and Distances 1.33

The most important topics here are:

• Trigonometric Functions: Domain, range and graph
• Trigonometric Identities and formula
• Trigonometric Equations and inequations
• Inverse trigonometric Functions: Domain range and Graph
• Heights and Distances

## JEE Main Maths Chapter-wise Weightage in Calculus

The second most heavy unit of Maths, this is the most important unit because it has applications not just in Maths but in Physics & Chemistry as well. Also, whichever engineering you end up choosing, if it has a maths component, it will have calculus. So an absolute clarity is required in this unit. Also, a lot of practice to cover the many many different varieties of questions which can be asked from this (which is what makes it comparatively difficult). Let's check the chapter-wise weight of this unit.

Chapter Weight (out of 120 Marks) Sets, Relations and Functions 3.33 Limits and Differentiation 6.67 Applications of Differentiation 6.33 Integration 7.00 Applications of Integrals 3.33 Differential Equations 3.33

The most important topics are:

• Invertible Functions and Binary Operations
• Various functions and their graphs
• Logarithmic and Exponential functions
• Algebra of Limits
• Derivatives of different types of functions and their Algebra
• Continuity of a function
• Higher order derivatives
• Rolle's and Mean Value Theorem
• Rate of change of quantities
• Increasing and Decreasing Functions, Maxima and Minima, Maximum and Minimum values of a function in closed Interval
• Tangents and Normal
• Indefinite & definite integration of various forms
• Definite Integral as limit of a sum
• Area under Curves
• General and Particular Solutions of Differential Equations
• Formation of Differential Equations from given solutions

Now, just to prove that this analysis is very close to the actual paper pattern, check out this table where we compare the weightage of Chapters before JEE Main 2017 and the weight of chapters in JEE Main 2017 and find out for yourself:

 UNIT JEE Main 2017 Pre 2017 Analysis Algebra 33.33 35.00 Calculus 36.67 32.67 Coordinate Geometry 23.33 25.33 Trigonometry 6.67 7.00

The slight variation in Algebra & Calculus can be attributed to questions based on multiple concepts.
