How to Score 130 Above in Chemistry: Tips for NEET 2020

In NEET, I believe you all know that 45 questions are asked from Chemistry which carries weightage of 180 marks. Good performance in this subject can lead to a better place at a prestigious college. With some extra efforts, you can score good in chemistry to extract maximum marks. Here are some tricks and tips on how to prepare for NEET exam?

If I talk about the NEET previous year papers, most of the questions were application-based, conceptual and less tricky. Most of the questions come from organic chemistry, carbon cycle, inorganic chemistry comparatively.

Chemistry is a Scoring Subject. Are you thinking, Why? Here is the answer:

You guys know that chemistry is sub-divided into three parts:

  1. Organic Chemistry
  2. Inorganic Chemistry
  3. Physical Chemistry

Most of the times, there will be 13 questions asked from each sub-unit of chemistry. Remember, so many direct questions are being asked from Inorganic Chemistry. All you need is to learn and remember the points from the different chapters. But I have seen that most of the students leave that part because it needs a lot of memorizing and generally they call it boring. If you are looking for a better career option, go ahead, learn the concepts and do not ignore this part of chemistry.

On the other hand, if I talk about Physical and Organic Chemistry, they require continuous and regular practice. Many students scored full marks in AIPMT in previous years. If a student is not that sharp but an average student, he can also answer 25 questions out of 35 questions, in this subject, making sure that he is giving his couple of hours daily to study chemistry.

Important Chapters in Chemistry for NEET

Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, and, Coordination Compounds are very – very important chapters. For preparing physical chemistry, solve 10-12 numerical daily. These chapters need to be prepared in a well - planned manner.

Surface Chemistry, Biomolecules, Polymers, Metallurgy and Chemistry in Everyday Life are generally ignored by the students. Well, 5 to 6 questions can be asked from these chapters. We cannot afford to lose 5 questions, so these chapters also need proper attention and time. You should read Organic Chemistry thoroughly since each chapter is important for the exam.

In inorganic chemistry, p block elements are very deep in terms of concept. If you cannot cover the entire chapter, try to complete at least Group 13 and group 14 elements thoroughly. Generally, 2 or 3 questions are being asked from d block elements. Read the chapters thoroughly.

How to Prepare Chemistry for NEET 2020

Tip 1: Learn all the formulae. They should be at your fingertips.

Tip 2: Whenever preparing Physical Chemistry, make sure to cover the theoretical portion as the theoretical questions are often asked along with Numerical Problems.

Tip 3: For the preparation of Inorganic Chemistry, follow NCERT book only. Don’t mess with other books.

Tip 4: Revise all the memorized chapters daily, so that you cannot forget the stuff, you have studied already.

Tip 5: To remember the reactions in organic chemistry, write them in your notebook, as many times as you can. Practice Conversions on daily basis. Try to make a road map for the reaction so that you can remember them easily and quickly.

Tip 6: To get a better idea about the type of questions that can be asked, solve previous 10 years paper of AIPMT or NEET. The pattern will help you.

Tip 7: After finishing any chapter of Chemistry, solve at least 50 objective questions. This will help you to clear the concept.

Tip 8: Cover entire NEET syllabus from NCERT book. Reading NCERT daily will make your concepts clear and these concepts will help you to score maximum marks in your examination.

Tip 9: In case of organic chemistry focus on GOC (General Organic Chemistry) and the naming reactions. Make a chart to revise the reactions.

Tip 10: Mark the important chapters and revise them as often as you can.

Tip 11: Never hesitate to ask questions from your teacher. Your hesitation can create a trouble for you.

Tip 12: You can try to make a cheat sheet that will contain all the important formulas and concepts. This sheet will be helpful for you while revising the subject before the examination.

Tip 13: Try to prepare a weekly study plan in which you have to choose the chapters and topics on a daily basis. Follow the study plan for better results.

Tip 14: You should solve online Mock Test Series for at least three weeks. This is a great help in evaluating your preparation level. And you will get to know the areas where you need to work.

Tip 15: In organic chemistry, start creating a mechanism. You may mistake at the beginning, but you will learn the logic behind reactions.

Tip 16: Coordination compounds is a scoring and straightforward topic. The best way to master in coordination compound is practice.

Tip 17: From today, your second-best friend is a periodic table, because knowledge of the periodic table will be a great help in the exam.

I hope these tips will be helpful to you. I am wishing you a good luck for NEET 2020. I want you all to give your 100% in the examination with smart work.
