BAMS 2020 Admission Details! India has been the home of ayurvedic medicine, and due to its curing ability and no side-effects, this branch of medicine is widely gaining popularity all over the world. As a result, the number of practitioners of ayurvedic medicine is on the rise. The required course for getting admission in ayurvedic science is a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).

What is BAMS?

BAMS is a medicinal course which imparts the knowledge of Ayurveda and its properties. This degree is recognized under ‘The Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970’. There is a growing demand in the application of ayurvedic medicine, and due to the rapid developments in this sector, it can be a bright career option for students.

  • Duration of the BAMS Course

The duration of the course is 5 years and 6 months, where the compulsory study is of 4.5 years and one year is dedicated to the internship. During the course of the internship, a stipend of around Rs 12,684 per month is paid to the interns. The degree offered to the students is Ayurvedacharya. After the completion of the degree, students are offered the title of a vaidya (abbreviated as Vr.)

  • Eligibility Criteria for BAMS Courses

Candidates should have passed class 12 from a recognized board to be eligible for BAMS 2020. Though the compulsory subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, some institutes also ask for Sanskrit as a compulsory subject at 10+ 2 level as most of the resources is in Sanskrit. The minimum age for getting admission in BAMS course is 17 years.

  • Entrance Exams for BAMS

Different institutes follow different processes for admitting students to BAMS 2020 courses. While some institutes give BAMS admission 2020 to students based on their 10+2 scores, other institutes conduct their exams for selecting and admitting students. The BAMS 2020 course is offered by many public and private colleges and institutes of the country. Some of the state level entrance exams conducted for this examination are the KLE University All Indian Entrance Test (KLEU AICT), Andhra Pradesh Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (AP EAMCET), Telangana State Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET), and Assam Combined Entrance Examination (Assam CEE).

  •  Job Aspects in BAMS

The different job aspects after completing the course of BAMS 2020 are in the Healthcare community, Insurance, Pharma industry, and Life science industry. One can find a comfortable job in the field of Ayurveda in government hospitals, Ayurvedic hospitals, Dispensaries, and Research institutes as a medical representative, Category manager, Ayurvedic doctor, Sales representative, business development officer, area sales manager, assistant claims manager, pharmacist, and product manager. The ayurvedic doctors are also recruited in various state public service commissions. There is also an option for a person holding a degree of BAMS to start his practice or to open retail shops of ayurvedic medicine. There is also a career prospect of becoming a tutor in ayurvedic colleges or be involved in research activities. The other option is to pursue a Master of Surgery in Ayurveda {M.S. (Ayu)} or a Doctor of Medicine in Ayurveda {M.D.(Ayu)}.

  • Career Options in Panchkarma

Panchkarma is a branch of ayurvedic medicines, which is a five-fold ayurvedic therapy to cleanse toxins from the body to provide complete detoxification. A career in panchkarma is lucrative, and there are many scopes in this sector. One can work as a therapist or can work as a supervisor in panchkarma health care centres.

 There are a total of 154 UG colleges and 33 PG colleges in India offering ayurvedic courses. Some of the colleges where students can opt for BAMS 2020 course are as follows:

  • College and Hostel Fees

The year-wise break-up of the college fee structure is as follows:

  1. 1st year- Rs 27,100

  2. 2nd year- Rs 17,500

  3. 3rd year- Rs 17,500

  4. 4th year- Rs 26,250

In addition to this, if students avail hostel facilities, they will have to pay Rs 3,600 per year for the first three years and Rs 5,400 for the final year.

Ayurvedic science is combining the traditional system of medicine with modern advancements, and hence, this sector of medicine has enormous scopes. BAMS is a lucrative career option for those who want to pursue a career in the field of medicine but do not want to go down the path of MBBS. Several states in India are looking for ayurvedic doctors to bridge the deficit gap between doctors and patients. With the majority of students opting for BAMS courses, this gap can be reduced, and patients can be benefitted with ayurvedic medicine.
