Answer :
The September Massacre was a prominent event during the Revolutionary War. It took place across three days, from 2nd to 5th September,1792. The following events led to the September Massacre:
i) In April 1792, the Legislative assembly declared a war against Prussia and Austria, whose monarchies were trying to re-establish the feudal system in France.
ii) The King of France saw this as his chance to finally get back some power. So, he insisted his own Swiss guards to enter the war and open fire against the Commune of Paris- the revolutionary army.
iii) The Assembly and the Commune of Paris considered the king’s decision to be treasonous. Hence, the Commune hoisted red flags in August 1792, and imposed martial law.
iv)Following the lead, the Commune started looking out for sympathisers of the king, and their leader Marat. 1500 men were suspected of treason, and were killed during the early days of September, in what was called, the SEPTEMBER MASSACRE.
