The Indian Constitution was drafted by the members of the Constituent Assembly. On 9th December 1946 first meeting of the assembly was held. The constituent assembly was divided into the assembly of Pakistan and India. The assembly adopted the constitution on 26th November 1949, but it came into effect on 26th January 1950.
• The Constitution thus framed was the lengthiest written constitution of the world. The constitution was made considering the factors like the diversity of the country, historical factors etc.
• The Constitution made was both flexible and rigid. It is flexible because some provisions of the constitution can be amended and are rigid because it requires a special procedure for its amendments.
• The constitution establishes a federal form of government i.e. two governments one at the Union and at the States. Federalism helps in easing the governance.
