(a) In Maharashtra, the Salt Satyagraha was staged at Wadala, Malvan, Shiroda and some other places.


Note: Salt Satyagraha was against the British monopoly of production and taxation on salt. Hence, it was decided to break the Salt law as salt is available in nature. This Satyagraha which started in Dandi by Gandhiji spread to every corner of the country including Maharashtra.


(b) Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay, Avantikabai Gokhale, Leelavati Munshi, Hansaben Mehta are some of the women who took an active part in Satyagraha.


Note: The satyagraha, which was a part of the Civil Disobedience Movement invited the participation of women also. They protested against the atrocities of the British and faced the consequences boldly. Some were even imprisoned. Apart from the listed above, Kamala Nehru, Hemprabha Das, and Sucheta Kripalani were some other women who were involved in Satyagraha movement.


(c) In the Gandhi-Irwin Pact, the British Government assured to give a system of responsible government in the proposed constitution of India.


Note: The pact means written agreement. Gandhi-Irwin Pact was signed on 5th March 1931 between the British Viceroy Lord Irwin and Mahatma Gandhiji. This pact was seen important in the history of Indian Independence. The Civil Disobedience movement was withdrawn after this pact. Mahatma Gandhi agreed to attend the second round table conference on behalf of the Indian National Congress.
