(i) Dr. Pal played a major role for ruining the financial life of Margayya. In dreaming of becoming wealthy, Margayya wants to put up any effort so he visits Dr. Pal who was a rural doctor by profession and gives a book to Margayya which was written by him in which improvement in the lives of married couples was described. When Margayya distributed the book in Malgudi, the response was extremely well so till the part ends the image of Dr. Pal seemed to be very helpful and considerate. The protagonist image of Mr. Pal was shown in the end of novel when Margayya comes to know about the conspiracy done by Pal with his son to take up all his money. In the end, Mr. Pal took all his revenge from Margayya by turning all his clients against him resulting to the loss of every wealth of his lifetime. Every villager turns their back on to him and no one agrees to help in any way. As a result, he has to go back to his poor life once again from where he seems to start in the starting of the novel.
(ii) At the heights of being rich, Margayya ignores every person in the village and rejects all the requests from the poor. The proudness of wealth and status brainwashes him to be cruel and mean to the society. He forgets every help that he has taken from people before and now he is ignorant towards all the needy. In the end, when he fights with Dr. Pal as he comes to know it was him who encourages his son to ask his share, Dr. Pal takes his revenge by turning all his clients against him and took all his wealth. Now he has come back to the life of poor where he starts from and now he has lost all his relations from the people of the village, no one wants to look and talk to him due the arrogant behavior he used to do with them when he was rich. It is now impossible to him to start any work further because no one will support him and there is no hope for him to make his living again in the village properly. At last he begins with his life from the poor living as he used to live earlier.
