Answer :

The organic compound ‘X’ is Ethanol whose formula is given by CH3 - CH2 -0H. As given in the question, when Ethanol is heated with conc. H2SO4, the product formed will be Ethane which is a ‘Y’ compound.


When one molecule of H2 is added to Ethene, in presence of Ni, the compound formed is Ethane.


The chemical reactions are as follows;


CH3CH2OH CH2 =CH2 + H2O


CH2 =CH2CH3 – CH3


CH3 – CH3 + 7/2 O2 2CO2 + 3H2O + Heat + light
