The organic compound ‘X’ is Ethanol whose formula is given by CH3 - CH2 -0H. As given in the question, when Ethanol is heated with conc. H2SO4, the product formed will be Ethane which is a ‘Y’ compound.
When one molecule of H2 is added to Ethene, in presence of Ni, the compound formed is Ethane.
The chemical reactions are as follows;
CH3CH2OH CH2 =CH2 + H2O
CH2 =CH2CH3 – CH3
CH3 – CH3 + 7/2 O2 2CO2 + 3H2O + Heat + light
