After independence, which items were allowed to be imported by the government of India?
Answer :
After independence, the Indian government had placed restrictions on foreign trade and foreign investment. This was to protect the domestic producers from foreign competition as the competition from imports would not have allowed these industries to develop. Thus, only imports of only essential items such as machinery, fertilisers and petroleum were made.
